Dottie Coven: Connecting Curriculum and Technology
Dottie has a unique and intriguing way of getting us to think about technology and its effective use in the classroom. She had us thinking about different ways to implement technology into the classroom. Of great interest was her discussion on how to bring teachers along--how we overlook the daily activities and that technology can enhance our lives. The tools that she shared are practical and teacher-friendly.
After the break Dottie took us through discussions and ideas of how to simplify the every-day activities and assist teachers in beginning to use technology. She offered several examples of great things we can do for daily activities, math, reading, science and writing. You can find her resources at the following:
http://model.inventivetec.com
Once at this site you will need to use the username and password: smartdemo
After you are in the site, go to the left side and click on "Course"
From here, you will find the resources that Dottie has provided.
A great workshop!!!

Digital Kits Workshop Preparation
During the ITSC workshop, Powerful Projects Made Simple with Digital Kits, we will be using the following software to create digital projects:
- Inspiration v8 ~ I have trial CDs for you or you can download a 30 Day trial version. You can also use version 7 with modification if this is what you have available in your district.
- PowerPoint ~ Mac users can also use Keynote with some modifications.
- iPhoto and iMovie (Mac only) ~ Comes free on your Mac.
- PhotoStory and Movie Maker (PC only) ~ PhotoStory is a free Microsoft download for Windows XP.
- Google Earth ~ Free download for Mac or PC.
If you would like to have the ability to practice creating digital projects with any of the above mentioned applications, please have that software installed on your computer.
We will also be gathering digital material from a variety of web sites. One of these sites, unitedstreaming, requires a subscription. Most of the school districts in Oregon have a subscription to unitedstreaming. Please visit the website if you need to determine whether your school district has a subscription or if you need to retrieve your username and password. You can also sign up for a free 30 day trial.
Thanks for your help in coming prepared to the workshop!

Did You See Our Keynoter...
David Pogue on 60 Minutes Sunday? Here is a great video on how technology is changing our lives and the Geek Squad that we need to help manage it all. Or maybe you would rather read the article instead of watch the video. |

Everything Google Preparation
In order to prepare for the Everything Google Workshop at ITSC, please make sure that you complete the following:
1. Turn off your proxy server settings (if you don?t know how to do this and you are using a school computer, please consult with your school/district technology person).
2. Create a Google Account (not an email account, just a regular Google account).
3. Make sure that you have an updated browser. Either Firefox 1.5+ or Internet Explorer 6+. If you have a Macintosh, make sure that you have Firefox (Safari is not supported). You can download Firefox for free.
4. Download Google Earth or if you already have it make sure that you have the latest version by opening GE and clicking the Help menu and selecting Check for Updates Online?
5. Finally, if you do not get a chance to download the software before the conference, make sure that you have admin rights (the ability to install new software; you may need a password to do this) on your computer.
Once you have completed the above, please send a confirmation email to itsc@lynnlary.com.
Thanks for your help in preparing for the Everything Google Session!
