UPDATED: Cache Coordinates

We went out to the cache locations -- they ARE there, but the coordinates posted on the weblog were...a bit off. Here are the latest and greatest:

Cache #1:
N 45 35.026
W 122 34.455

Cache #2:
N 45 35.023
W 122 34.545

Cache #3:
N 45 34.956
W 122 34.430

Cache #4:
N 45 34.923
W 122 34.407

...and because we messed up the first set, we're going to GIVE you the bonus cache coordinates:

BONUS:
N 45 34.829
W 122 34.210

...sorry about the confusion!

ITSC Menu

We try to do the best job with our menu for ITSC with the skyrocketing costs of food. Unique to most conferences we try and provide many of your meals during the event. We try to accommodate needs, but in some instances cannot do so. If you would preview the menu and if you will not be satisfied please consider bringing alternative foods.

Thank you!

WORKSHOP: Leadership Applied: Leveraging Technology for Systemic Change in the Learning Community

How can school leadership maximize student engagement and academic achievement? How can leaders encourage teachers and students to collaborate with peers and professionals around the world? In this presentation and workgroup session, Dr. Tim Tyson, former principal of Mabry Middle School, will share lessons learned and philosophical frameworks gleaned from that school's exploration of best practices and ways to leverage technology through school-wide blogging and school-wide student/teacher/administrator digital media creation in their efforts to make learning irresistible.

Under Dr. Tyson's leadership, Mabry received Scholastic and Intel Corporation's prestigious Schools of Distinction Award for Technology Innovation. He set up MabryOnline.org, a collection of over 100 blogs which served as the school web presence and features students', teachers' and administrators' digital media creations, serving up over 1.5 million files a month to users all over the world. Educators from around the country and several foreign countries visited Mabry to see firsthand the innovative ways technology is used to maximize student achievement. This session will outline a philosophical framework, plus provide participants with concrete examples of how to build community, and engage staff and students in meaningful and creative ways.

Mr. Tim Tyson

Everything Google Preparation

In order to prepare for the Everything Google Workshop at ITSC, please make sure that you complete the following:

1. Turn off your proxy server settings (if you don?t know how to do this and you are using a school computer, please consult with your school/district technology person).

2. Create a Google Account (not an email account, just a regular Google account).

3. Make sure that you have an updated browser. Either Firefox 1.5+ or Internet Explorer 6+. If you have a Macintosh, make sure that you have Firefox (Safari is not supported). You can download Firefox for free.

4. Download Google Earth or if you already have it make sure that you have the latest version by opening GE and clicking the Help menu and selecting Check for Updates Online?

5. Finally, if you do not get a chance to download the software before the conference, make sure that you have admin rights (the ability to install new software; you may need a password to do this) on your computer.

Once you have completed the above, please send a confirmation email to itsc@lynnlary.com.

Thanks for your help in preparing for the Everything Google Session!

Intelligent eForms in Education

ITSC Adobe Workshop
Intelligent eForms in Education

was presented by Ali Hanyaloglu, Technical Evangelist for Acrobat in Education.

His e-mail address is: ali@adobe.com

Acrobat is for making PDF files ? student reports, school board communications, SPED plans, parent communications, archiving, teacher productivity, administrative forms, lesson plans

Adobe 7.0 Pro allows you to make a form that can be filled out on line with anyone that has Adobe Reader:

Select Tools
Typewriter
Enable typewriter tool in Adobe Reader

This will allow anyone who is using reader to fill in as you would on a typewriter.

There are lots of ways to create fields including fields with a drop down list, totaling with a formula as one would in Excel, create elements that can be reused in another form, write scripting using javascript, fields that can be limited in size or grow as large as needed, digital signature, digital approval, and to upload fields into a database.

Links available on Adobe for K-12 education. Copy of today?s presentation on Adobe website.
