South Lane School district

I have been playing with and integrating technology since my days as a teacher in Creswell School District, 17 years ago. I was also a Technology Director in that district. Now I am an administrator in South Lane School District. We have been working hard to get technology in the hands of all of our students. This has led us down several paths: We are in the 5th year of a handheld computer project that involves about 900 handhelds across all grades at every school. We have a state of the art engineering technology lab at our high school. We recently started a robotics club at a middle school in the district. And we just opened two inexepnsive server-based open-source labs.

As an educator for 26 years, I have watched our definition of educational technology grow from use of the thermofax and ditto machine to the integration of technology into every classroom. In my role as the coordinator of curriculum and assessment at the Southern Oregon ESD, I find the challenge of supporting educators with technology resources to be timely and exciting. Our ESD is a regional resource for online education, interactive video-conferencing, classroom use of Lexiles, effective use of library and media technologies, and other methods for using technology in school improvement. Our continued challenge is how to stay current with evolving practices while providing the best possible staff development for technology integration to increase student success.

Tigard-Tualatin School District
I am not only a newbie to the Cadre, but I am new to Tigard-Tualatin School District, as well, in the position of district Instructional Technology Specialist. I worked for sixteen years in Oregon City School District under many different job titles (none of which I could remember!), but was the server administrator and webmaster, in charge of OS X deployment and taught numerous staff development classes and workshops. After a month, I am enjoying my new job of being a cheerleader for technology integration into the classroom and think I am finally getting used to new faces and a new way of doing things. Even someone who embraces technology can sometimes struggle with change!

Jennifer Gingerich
I was a classroom teacher for nine years, mostly in Beaverton, in grades 3-5. For the last seven years I have been working part time as a technology trainer and coach in the Canby School District. This has been a lot of fun. I love working with all levels of teachers, technophobes to geeks, and all ages of kids, kindergarten to high school. I am especially fond of training teachers to organize info with databases, to use Kidspiration & Inspiration for critical analysis, to create simple iMovies using digital photos, and to get the most out of the Internet. I am currently working with several school districts and with Discovery Education United Streaming on a contract basis.

Tim Chase (Bend LaPine)

The short version . . .
Tim Chase :: Bend LaPine Schools :: tchaseblp@gmail.com
The longer version . . .
My identity at the moment is primarily that of "father of three small children." In fact it was difficult to find any pics of myself at all in our family photos--I must also have "holder of the camera" as part of my identity. In this picture my son, Michael, watches as I prepare my costume for a masked ball.
I teach reading and technology in LaPine Middle School and am actively involved in our school district's competitive EdTech grant to develop technology integration into all the schools. It's my hope to move into a TOSA role within my district to further tech integration in each of our schools. Staff development was the group that I chose to be in at the fall PDC meeting because it is one of my professional passions.
